Samantha

Shutter: 1/400 // Aperture: f/2.5 // Focal Length: 85 mm // ISO 160

This is Samantha, daughter of one of my cohorts in the Kansas City area blogosphere. I took care of some portrait work for them this past weekend. Samantha was exceptionally easy to photograph because she never blinks while the photo is being taken.

By the way - anyone out there wanting portrait work done - let me know!

Protesters HDR’d

Shutter: 1/80 // Aperture: f/9.0 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 100

I used HDR/tone mapping on the single RAW exposure here to recover the highlights in the afternoon sky, as a small demonstration was happening along the side of 47th Street at Mill Creek Park on Sunday.

Youthful protesting

Shutter: 1/1000 // Aperture: f/4.0 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 100

I stopped by Mill Creek Park to check out the weekly protest, as it can make for interesting photo subject matter, these kids included. Although I’m kind of surprised to hear that the attendance at the protests has waned; I thought it would be stronger than ever in light of the fact that this country has been wrecked possibly beyond repair. But I digress…

5th & Delaware

Three handheld RAWs // HDR // Shutter: varied // Aperture: f/18 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 200

…the corner of 5th and Delaware in the River Market, today.

A collection of talls

One tripod mounted RAW // HDR // Shutter: 13 sec. // Aperture: f/40 // Focal Length: 400 mm // ISO 400

w00t! I just love the smell of skyscrapers in the morning. (Although this photo was at sunset)… downtown KCMO.

I will be spending a week in New York City at the end of this month - hopefully I’ll get some good shots there.

Shot sign of the Red Hills

Five tripod mounted RAWs // HDR // Shutter: varied // Aperture: f/14 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 100

A sign in rural Kansas, like many other signs, with bullet holes. This was on Labor Day weekend when I spent the afternoon doing some photos in the Red Hills area. Looking back now I see I have many compositions centered around this sign residing in my data banks.

JPC

Shutter: 1/160 // Aperture: f/1.8 // Focal Length: 85 mm // ISO 3200

One of my cohorts at the Board of Trade, Jeremy here has been seen on this site before. Interestingly, he can run from West Plaza to Loose Park and back without stopping or slowing down… amazing how some people keep on top of things.

The only World War One museum - a fisheye photo

Five tripod mounted RAWs // HDR // Shutter: varied // Aperture: f/18 // Focal Length: 15 mm // ISO 100

HDR is a lot of fun when you’re dealing with limestone or sunsets - and here I got to try both in the same shot. And the use of a fisheye lens on occasion is good for the soul, so I believe.

This photo is at Liberty Memorial, downtown Kansas City, MO.

Bow tie man

Shutter: 1/250 // Aperture: f/7.1 // Focal Length: 220 mm // ISO 800

Here’s a shot from way the… whatever, way back in July a little bit before I road tripped to St. Louis. This post has been sitting in my draft queue since then, so I thought I’d get it going.

This was in Loose Park, at a picnic for the Jason Kander campaign for the Missouri 44th District.

At the base of Liberty Memorial

Five tripod mounted RAWs // HDR // Shutter: varied // Aperture: f/20 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 400

I figured it had been a few months since traipsing over into the environs of the Liberty Memorial - the oft-seen lookout towards the KCMO skyline. Between getting skyline telephoto shots, I also snagged some wide angle close-ups at the base of the tower… it’s just that the pattern of lights in in the ground, I thought, demanded attention. Lights in the ground always demand attention. And HDR was a big help for this shot in coming out with an even exposure, given the bright highlights of the lamps at the base of the tower, contrasted with the sunset happening off to the west.
