AMC Empire Theater of Kansas City

One tripod mounted RAW // HDR // Shutter: 8 sec. // Aperture: f/22 // Focal Length: 17 mm // ISO 400.

Set to re-open in the coming weeks, this 1920s era theater sat abandoned for decades if I’m not mistaken, and was in such a state of disrepair that it was teetering on the brink of demolition. In fact I’m quite sure buildings that were in better condition than this was have been demolished in Kansas City for reasons of “decrepitude.”

AMC, a local company partnered with Cordish (the Power and Light District people) to restore the building in downtown KCMO. Up until a few months ago it’s primary purpose was to serve as a dumping ground for various unpleasantries by the downtown pigeon community.

I think I’ll see the new Star Trek movie there in May.
