Venus over the Missouri

Five tripod mounted RAWs // HDR // Shutter: varied // Aperture: f/14 // Focal Length: 40 mm // ISO 500

Blah… whatever. Here we have the moon in some kind of waxing state of crescence, tap dancing about the celestials with Venus to the upper left, perhaps in an effort to entertain those dwelling near this Missouri River also pictured. Or, as some of our backwards politicians might pronounce it, “The Mizz-oo-ruh Rivur.”

Another shot, taken about three hundred or so days ago standing in the exact same place, can be seen here.

You may notice in that old photo in the link, the subject matter is the moving trains over the long exposure. In this photo I had hoped to pull off something very similar but with a lesser focal length so that the sunset could be encompassed. Didn’t quite work as grand as I had hoped, because in this new one you can’t even really tell there’s a moving train down to the lower left, although there is.

Also, this marks probably one of the half-dozen times I’ve ever used a photo taken with my 17-40 wide angle lens where I had the focal length zoomed all the way out to 40 mm. 17 mm is where it’s at almost always, with that lens. Because of this bit of being zoomed in, I don’t see much of the motion-dramatic angling to lure the eye to and fro throughout the photograph, so I’m kind of tepid on this one.

In other news, I had previously felt like taking this weekend to pillage about Kansas City, raising some hell and busting some knee caps - but now that feeling’s subsiding and I’m just going to relish in tea and crumpets and pour over the Financial Times.
