Even though it is forlorn, decayed, and deserted, I find few Kansas City locales more fun to photograph than the West Bottoms. A major reason the place holds my favor is the obvious lack of anal-retentive security guards and their combed-overlord hapless corporate managerial nontalent superiors insisting that their unfortunate minions (the security guards) interrogate anyone with a single lens reflex camera. What’s left of the West Bottoms is a bygone built environment totally free of pretension and bullshit, which is maybe what I love about it the most.
